Nice to meet you! I’m Danielle Smoot, aka Sassy Smoot Stitches. I first fell in love with stitching in 2014. After my son was born, I wanted to make our family handmade stockings just like my grandma had made for my siblings and I. 

I found out once I got started that felt stocking kits are very detailed, but along the way I fell in love with sewing aka stitching. You won’t see any felt stockings for sale on this website. Even though they are beautiful- they take so much effort to make I could never sell them for an affordable price. In addition to that, I came across cross stitch in 2017 and then REALLY fell in love with that. I occasionally do a felt kit every few years, but it is no longer why I stitch.  Sometime before 2020 I added embroidery to the list, then I got a Cricut in 2020 during COVID, and then I started crochet in 2023.

I’ve just continued to discover and fall in love with more types of crafts. I like to say that I am in a poly relationship with the fiber arts. Crochet and cross stitch compete for being at the top of my heart, but really they just take turns! The thing I do most with my Cricut is faux leather earrings, but I can definitely do many other things like shirts, mugs, and hats. 

For the longest time I resisted any notion of selling my crafts. I thought it would take all of the joy out of stitching- and I get an incredible amount of joy out of creating. However, letting the other soccer moms on my son’s team pay me to make us matching Soccer Mom hoodies on my Cricut made me realize, that if the people that bought my items were family or friends, then it didn’t have to be stressful. I first started selling as Sassy Smoot Stitches in 2024 with an embroidery piece for a coworker’s wife. I realized that it was possible to make my own rules for how to sell. For instance you will not note a lot of ready made items for sale on this website. 

This is because I prioritize making what myself and others want, over making a lot of the same item just to sell it. I still do lots of crafting for myself and for my son, who is my best customer- without ever actually having to pay, haha. But, I love the joy I get from selling to wonderful people like you. It’s a way to share my art and the joy it brings me with others. 

If you’re not sure yet whether or not you want to place an order, feel free to join us on my Facebook group. It is not only where I first started selling my handmade items, but it is also a community. There is never any pressure to buy, and often I am sharing items I’ve made for myself. But, if you see something you like- you can always ask if you can commission one for yourself or a loved one. Many many times the answer is yes! (Occasionally there are cross stitch pieces that are so large or labor intensive that I wouldn’t consider making for sale as the price for a customer would be too high).
